Camille Auclair, a British/French artist born in London and based in Mexico City since 2018, draws inspiration from a personal, ethical sensitivity to human relationships with the planet. Her work delves into the experience of inhabiting a human body, exploring how the expedient commodification of natural resources impacts human relations, creativity, spirituality, and overall well-being.

Camille's exploration revolves around the juxtaposition of two inseparable strands of existence: the material human body and the human consciousness and soul. This investigation extends to experiences of disembodiment and dissociation, exploring how these symptoms might damage relationships with non-human ecosystems. The defining goal of her work is to reconsider the term ‘community’ and redefine what it means to be a part of one.

Rooted in spiritual concepts like Anima Mundi (the vital ‘world soul’), Camille challenges the notion of an anthropocentric 'community,' suggesting its expansion to encompass all organisms and environments. Her aim is to shed light on and attempt to rebuild the broken relationships between the human and non-human universes through drawings, paintings, and textile pieces. Collaboration with other artists and artisans is an integral part of her creative process, particularly her enduring partnership with Maestro Tito Mendoza Ruiz, an artisan and artist specializing in woven textiles, based in Teotitlán Del Valle in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Her educational background includes a BFA in Textile Design from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London.
